GPC Engineer
Role Purpose:
As a GPC Engineer the staff is mainly responsible for cost estimations of products / prototypes including the routing of those and secondary operations. In close contact to the customer a design for AM approach needs to be done professionally.
This role is Hybrid in nature but will be based out of the Auburn Hills, MI office and will require time onsite each week and occasional customer visits in the area.
Key Responsibilities:
- RFQs & costing: Ability to prepare product routings detailing processes for new parts. Complete markup of prints for customer "OK to tool" and management of quote sign off with plant; coordinates costing at sub contractors and prepares detailed discussion documents for quote review. Uses current best practice and reviews products for capital requirements, risk and IP issues and opportunities.
- Assist in calculation / design of parts / components according to strength aspects
- Customer Relationship Building: is respected by customer engineering as a solution provider and development partner; experienced in discussions with customer and able to (re-)present GKN engineering
- Product Application: Understands product application requirements (performance, wear, temperature, etc); Understanding general tolerance and dimension requirements for the application
- Product design: ability to meet product requirements (performance, wear, function, weight, cost, etc) by transferring material & process knowhow (AM capabilities)
- Product design: ability do product designs & proposals
- Standards & norms - knows and understands AM standards; able to understand customer standards for product developments and product applications
- Familiar with testing and validation methods - knows and understands methods for material and product evaluation
- R&D expertise - understands R&D results and ability to transfer R&D results (materials, processes, …) to new products and applications
- FEA analysis interpretation - understands FEA simulation results; ability to evaluate and to explain results with respect to product performance requirements and product application requirements
- Engineering IT systems - ability to use BAAN, erfq, APQP, MS Office, OBD, Sintershare, TeamCenter, Material database, MDE, D3, etc
- Basic awareness of commercial business: ROS, Proitability, ROI including IRR and GKN cost of capital
- Quality documentation - knows and understands Q-documents like FMEA PPAP, control plans, product (special, significant) charactersitics matrix, cp/cpk/pp/ppk values etc
- Understands quality measurement devices
- Lead APQP teams - able to lead the new product development teams (launch teams) and develop a product towards time and cost schedules from PO to SOP
- Problem solving - Trained in the practical use of problem solving tools (Shanin, DOE, etc)
- Project & program management - understands and is able to initiate and lead projects and programs
Qualification and Skills:
- Degree in Engineering discipline or equivalent experience
- Product design / development: ability to do product designs & proposals
- Standards & norms - knows and understands AM standards; able to understand customer standards for product developments and product applications
- Familiar with testing and validation methods - knows and understands methods for material and product evaluation
- Understands quality measurement devices
