Giang To Hong on Simulation Conference 2019: Innovative drive with very high torque density: transverse flux motor for e-bike/e-scooter

Design and validation of an electric machine with three-dimensional magnetic flux guidance based on Soft Magnetic Composite (SMC) technology. Typical topologies are transverse flux machine (TFM) and axial flux machine (AFM), which offer many advantages compared to conventional radial flux machines.
For applications with requirements for high torque density, compactness and efficiency, e.g. in the automotive sector or for e-bikes/e-scooters, the use of the transverse flux machine (TFM) shows a significant improvement in performance.
In the speech the development process and the characteristics of a TFM are shown. In addition, the performance data of this built e-bike TFM rear wheel drive will be validated and compared with that of a state-of-the-art e-bike radial flux motor.
